What you need to know about B1/B2 visa for the USA
B1/B2 visa is the most common visa for Swedish citizens who need to travel to the USA for business or tourism and do not qualify for ESTA (Visa Waiver Program).
The application process includes completing the DS-160 form online, paying the MRV fee ($185) and a personal interview at the US Embassy in Stockholm.

ESTA for most Swedish travellers
Most Swedish citizens only need ESTA ($21) for visits up to 90 days. B1/B2 visa is required if you have been denied ESTA, have dual citizenship with certain countries, plan a longer stay, or have previous visa issues.

Do I need a visa or ESTA for the USA?

How long does it take to get a B1/B2 visa?
Processing time varies. Normally it takes 2-4 weeks to get an interview appointment at the embassy, plus 1-2 weeks for processing after the interview. Total approx. 3-6 weeks.
What happens at the visa interview?
The interview normally takes 3-5 minutes. The consul asks about the purpose of your trip, your ties to Sweden, financial situation and previous travel. We prepare you thoroughly for the interview.
How long is a B1/B2 visa valid?
B1/B2 visa is normally issued with 10 years validity and multiple entries. Each visit may be a maximum of 6 months, but normally 1-3 months is granted upon entry.
