India Visa from Sweden
Travelling to India? Most Swedish travellers apply via the electronic e-Visa, processed entirely online — for tourism, business, medical treatment or conferences. For longer stays or studies a traditional sticker visa from the Indian Embassy is required.

Do Swedish citizens need an India visa?
Yes — all foreign nationals, including Swedish citizens, need a visa to enter India. India does NOT have visa-free entry with Sweden.
The most common option is an e-Visa (Electronic Travel Authorization) which is applied for entirely online — valid for tourism (up to 30 days, 1 year or 5 years), business (up to 1 year) and medical visits. A paper visa (sticker in the passport) is required for longer stays, studies, employment, journalism and certain specialty visas.

⚡ India e-Visa — the easiest option
For the majority of Swedish travellers, the e-Visa is the obvious choice. It's 100% online, cheaper than a paper visa and works for most travel purposes:
- →Tourist e-Visa: 30 days (single entry), 1 year or 5 years (multiple entries)
- →Business e-Visa: 1 year (multiple entries) — for conferences, client meetings, exhibitions
- →Medical e-Visa: 60 days (3 entries) — for medical treatment
- →Conference e-Visa: 30 days (single entry) — for conferences hosted by Indian government bodies
- →Entry through 31 international airports (all major) or 6 ports — verify your destination accepts e-Visa
⚠ NOTE! The e-Visa CANNOT be used for longer stays, studies, employment, journalism, missionary work or visits to protected areas (some northeastern states, Andamans). A paper visa is required for those.
e-Visa or paper visa — how to choose
The most common question we get is "is e-Visa enough or do I need a paper visa?". Use this checklist to decide instantly — if you answer YES to anything under "Paper visa required" then e-Visa is not the right route.

For applicants admitted to Indian universities, colleges or other education longer than 6 months.

For employment with an Indian company. Requires employment contract and highly skilled position with salary over $25,000/year.
Medical Visa
For medical treatment at an approved Indian hospital. Includes two accompanying persons.
OCI Card

Tourist e-Visa (5 years)
Best option if you travel to India for tourism several times a year. Multiple entries over 5 years, max 90 days per visit. 100% online, no passport submission. Not renewable — apply for a new one when 5 years are up.
OCI Card (Overseas Citizen of India)
Lifetime visa for persons of Indian origin (you, your parent or grandparent born in India) or spouses of Indian citizens/OCI holders. Unlimited entries, unlimited stay, right to own property. Processed by Indian High Commission — we help with the application.
Employment Visa
For employment with an Indian company. Required: employment contract, salary min $25,000/year, highly skilled position. Valid 1 year at a time, renewable. FRRO registration within 14 days of arrival is required.
Student Visa
For studies longer than 6 months at an Indian university/college. Required: admission letter. Valid for length of studies, max 5 years. Does not allow part-time work.
Business Visa (paper)
For longer business assignments or project work where Business e-Visa is insufficient. Valid 1–5 years with multiple entries. Some Indian partners require a paper visa over e-Visa for administrative reasons.
Medical Attendant Visa
For an accompanying person to a patient holding a Medical Visa — spouse and 2 family members may accompany. Valid for the same period as the patient's Medical Visa.
