UK ETA – everything you need to know in 2025
From 2 April 2025, all travellers to the United Kingdom – including Swedish citizens – must apply for a UK ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) before departure. ETA is a digital travel authorisation linked to your passport and is required regardless of whether you travel for tourism, business or transit.
UK ETA costs £10 (approximately 140 SEK) and is valid for 2 years or until your passport expires. With an approved ETA, you can travel to England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland an unlimited number of times, with up to 6 months stay per visit.
The application is made via the official UK ETA app or on GOV.UK. Most ETA applications are processed within 3 working days, but it can take up to 3 weeks in exceptional cases. We recommend applying at least 2 weeks before departure.
Standard Visitor Visa is still needed if you have been denied ETA, plan to work, study for more than 6 months or have been denied entry previously. We help you with both ETA and Visitor Visa applications.
New requirement from 2 April 2025: UK ETA
All Swedish citizens must now have an approved UK ETA before travelling to the United Kingdom. Apply via the UK ETA app or GOV.UK. Cost: £10. Processing time: normally 1–3 working days.
